Uttarakhand State is characterized by a rich
diversity of ethnomedicinal plants as well as a rich heritage of wild edible plants system. It was observed that 102 species of ethno-medicinal plants belonging to 48 families are being used in
the folk-medicine system by the indigenous people of this region.
If we are talking about edible plant species of uttarakhand, it is 97 in numbers including Cereals and pseudocereals (08
crops), Millets and minor millets (06 crops), Pulses (15 crops), Oil seeds (11 crops), vegetables (28 crops), spices and condiments (10 crops) and fruits (19 crops). Whereas in case of wild
edible plant species, there are total number of 94 plant species including wild edible fruits (67) and wild edible vegetables (27), respectively.
